Rebecca Dowden

Rebecca DowdenRebecca Dowden L.R.A.M., Professional Certificate (Hons)

Rebecca trained on the Opera Course at The Royal Academy of Music as a performer, teacher and conductor.  Her career has encompassed all three as well as her love of stage direction.  Many of her singing students have gone on to study at the leading conservatoires and performing arts colleges and performed leading roles in the West End, most recently in “The Sound of Music”, “Oliver” and “Billy Elliot”. She has coached children many times for national tours of “Joseph”, “Whistle Down the Wind” and worked on the new production of “The Cunning Little Vixen” at Glyndebourne. In 2013 two of her students played leading roles with NYMT and many continued to have audition, competition and exam successes.  Rebecca has run vocal courses for over 20 years, firstly “Let’s Make a Musical!” and now her “Young Professional Singers’ Workshops”.

As a teacher she strives to bring out the full potential in each student by helping them with the technicalities of singing and helping them find the meaning within a song and emotional courage to enable them to be a strong performer.  As well as at GAPA, Rebecca teaches privately, at Ardingly College and Central Sussex College.  She is also very proud to Chair the Mid Sussex Competitive Music Festival held in Burgess Hill every November and be musical director of the only Stroke Association Chorus in the UK.
